Be a skincare detective
Be a detective, think about ingredients usage
Things to avoid or be mindful of the percentages contained in skincare products are parabens, polyethylene glycols (PEG’s), mineral oil, formaldehyde-releasers or Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLS or SleS). You should look out for anything which has paraben in the name – there are several prefixes which relate to the chemical make-up of the chain (methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, heptyl, isobutyl, isopropyl)
Try to avoid Polyethylene Glycols (PEG’s) which are often found in lots of different types of cosmetic items. Mineral oils (such as paraffin) and petroleum-based products are well-known (everyone has heard of Vaseline) and have been used for a long time. In the refining process they can be contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH’s) some of which are carcinogens. Some of these cannot be excreted from the body and can induce immune-responses and toxic effects.
You should look out for and try to limit your use of and exposure to paraffinium liquidium, paraffinium, cera microcristallina, petrolatum, mineral oil and paraffin wax.
